Air Bag Safety
Air bag safety has not been as prominent in the news over the past two years when compared to the span of time between 1996 and 1999. The government was faced with many safety issues when air bags first began being used. Studies were conducted and changes implemented to ensure that air bags are safe today when used properly.

Most of the earlier problems dealt with child safety and air bags, and therefore, most of the changes that have been implemented revolve around one basic rule; children are safer in the back seat of a vehicle whether that vehicle has an air bag or not. Therefore, the government focused their efforts on educating the public. It worked; child air bag- related fatalities have dropped dramatically. Other air bag issues that were dealt with include optional de-powering of air bags by 20-30% and installation of on-off switches in certain circumstances.
